Hailed by The Washington Times as a "marvelous mezzo” with a voice “convincing and secure, ornamentation tight and accurate...clear, robust, emotional, yet fearless,” Madelyn Wanner Salazar is a sought-after concert soloist, particularly for Handel’s Messiah. She has performed the work at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and with Choralis, the Central Maryland Chorale, The City Choir of Washington, and the Music in McLean Concert Series, among others. Also with the City Choir of Washington, Ms. Wanner has performed the alto solos in the Lord Nelson Mass (Haydn), Theresienmesse (Haydn), Rejoice in The Lamb (Britten), and Requiem (Duruflé). Other solo credits include Mozart’s Requiem with the New Dominion Chorale and the Central Maryland Chorale, and concert performances with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony and Annapolis Opera.

She was named DC Metro Theater Arts Best Scene Stealer of the Year for her performance of Sesto in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, which was lauded as “eye-opening” and “masterful” by the Washington Times. Her performance of Amastre in Handel’s Serse was described as “dark and ardent” by The Washington Post. She has performed operatic roles with Opera Delaware, Opera Southwest, Baltimore Concert Opera, the InSeries, and Opera Lafayette (Jazz at Lincoln Center), and has completed apprenticeships with Sarasota Opera and the Caramoor International Music Festival. Other operatic roles include the title role in Carmen, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, and Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia. She holds an MM from the University of Maryland, and a BM from the Peabody Conservatory of Music.

She has been awarded first place in the national round of the 2017 National Association of Teachers of Singing competition (Boulder, CO). She has also been a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and a finalist in the Annapolis Opera Competition and the National Association of Opera Competition.

In addition to her work as a vocalist, Ms. Salazar is employed as a speech-language pathologist in Northern Virginia working with neurogenic communication, voice, and swallowing disorders. She lives in Alexandria with her husband and two sons.
